March-WestOn
You’d think a team like March-Westin, full of unlimited talent, would be assembled by searching the state far and wide. Maybe it could be assembled just by buying the best players in the league today. It works for the Yankee’s doesn’t it? Ok, bad example (but Yankee failure is a beautiful thing). I mean, you can’t possibly field an entire softball team from one town. It’s impossible; Boparc softball is just too competitive to settle for mediocre talent. March-Westin needs the best and you can’t get that from one town. Or can you?
If you drive south on I-79 you’ll come to a place full of talent, a place that March-Westin has tapped for its softball elite. Lewis County.
Go ahead and finish your “Ooo’s and Aaah’s.”
It’s a pretty safe statement to say that the heart of March-Westin softball comes from the heart of West Virginia. No, it’s not a joke. Lewis County is the geographical center of West Virginia, or as the sign in Weston states “The Heart of West Virginia”. (Ok you fact people; it isn’t REALLY the center but its pretty close, just glance at a map).
Four members of the current March-Westin team are from Lewis County: David Craig, Scott Koon, Nick Mick, and Bryan Wimer. Not enough to field a softball team but that’s 4 out of 10 people from the same county. Not to bad if you ask me. Clearly the athletic gene pool in Weston is thriving in Boparc softball.
If you go back to the fall season, when March-Westin won the championship, you could add Jennings to the list of people from Lewis County. There’s 5 out of 10. You can’t stop us…
We really are the heart of March-Westin. Look at the number 4, 5, and 6 batters; Nick, Dave, Wimer. That is the heart of the lineup for March-Westin. We need a nickname, maybe Legion of Lewis County? Call us “The Legion” for short…I’m open to suggestions. (I’m also opening up for a lot of insults here but oh well)
In fall ball Jennings batted second, Scott could bat third or seventh, we would really be the heart of the order. We Lewis Countians are taking over the team. Soon the team will be changed to March-WestOn, courtesy of “The Legion.”

I’d like to apologize to Brian Bailey. He too is a fill in member of the March Westin team from Lewis County. He has played in a game this season thus qualifies to be mentioned.
Riiiiggghhhhhtttttt! Sure. Nick, Wimer, Dave and Scott. You say 40 percent. I say 30%. How can you forget about our AH and backup player. We regularly have 12 players in attendance. I could just as easily say our team is built around being less than 200 pounds. That SPEED is our key to victory. Going from 1st to 3rd on every single that is hit. That would mean Jackson, Tom, Johnny (maybe), Jonathan, Scott are the bread and butter. Without being so fast we would score less and get out more. I think that has more to do with it than being from Lewis county.
As for the gene pool in that area… I had always heard that it’s ok to marry your cousin if you live in Lewis county.
We may play with 11 people but we really only need 10. We let you play because you’re the “coach” and you have the nice bats.
Also on another note, you mention going first to third on a single, perhaps indicating I’m slow. Well, I seem to recall at the corporate cup this weekend Coach Tom getting thrown out at third not once, but TWICE. This was in co-ed and on Pam Berry, a much smaller field….hypocrite
Wrong. I was “called” out by the ump. He later said he wasn’t sure about the call, but went with his 1st instinct. The opposing teams 3rd baseman also said he wasn’t sure if he got me out, which means he didn’t. It also only happened once. The other person thrown out at third was Shawn. And lest you forget… at least we got on base in the Corporate Cup! BURN!
BTW, March-Westin is looking for a new LF and cleanup hitter. Not asking for much, approx 235 lbs, slow, hits lots of fly balls- only to LF.
Apparently you forget Coach Tom (that must be happening in your old age) you got thrown out at third another time. You were on second base and there was a hit to shortstop and you took off. They threw you out at third. I\’d think someone with any amount of knowledge about the game would have known that you should have waited.
To the NOVICE that would appear to be the case. In actuallity the hit was an easy roller to the SS who was going to EASILY make the throw to 1B, so I (in all my wisdom) tried to block his vision by stepping in front of him. To my dismay he did field the ball and was able to make an out.
