March-Westin Takes Advantage

March-Westin continued to pour on the offense as they faced team Advantage in Monday nights game where they cruised to a 20-3 victory.

After a slow first inning MW threw the hitting machine into high gear and never looked back as they recorded a 9 run second inning and a 10 run fourth inning.

MW had several impressive offensive performances but what they did right was not the news story for the night, it was what went wrong that left everyone talking.

Nick hit not one but two over the outfield fence, showing his apparent selfishness with what was clearly a publicity stunt that cost March-Westin an out; an out that they will never be able to get back. This is just another example of how newfound stardom can bring out the worst in people (Nick is currently the MW home run leader and featured regularly in the MWBall.com Chasing Bonds Update).

Perhaps it was all of the press that also made Johnny lose his focus Monday night as he struck out in the second inning.

Others however thrive under the intense pressure such as Tyler who went 3-3 with two triples and even with the Nick incident The Legion collectively went 9-13.

MW has outscored opponents 69-13 since the loss to John Howard and has since been on a 5 game winning streak. MW will look to continue that streak Saturday as they take on Suncrest Gym and then Webworks at 12pm and 1pm respectively.

The scorebook from Mondays game can be viewed here.

March-Westin ready for Prime Time

Not even pouring rain could stop MW’s offensive attack as they took on #3 Prime Thyme Saturday afternoon. All other boparc games may have been canceled for the day, but these athletes are ready to play rain, or shine. And as you can tell from these radar images, there was a lot more rain than there was shine on the field during the hour long game.

Once again March-Westin got things started early as they rattled off 9 runs in the first inning. MW boasted home runs by Tom, Tyler, Dave and Wimer. Jackson took a step closer to catching up with long ball leader Nick by reminding everyone in attendance that it’s not the size of the stick, it’s all about hittin’ the sweet spot. And Scott managed to keep his blast to left field in the park as he stretched the warning track shot into a standup triple.
All was not perfect for MW though, the traditionally sure gloved Nick recorded three errors in the feild, however one could argue that at least one of the passed balls could be blamed on the rain, but I was unsure how to record that in the scorebook.

MW did have some defensive highlights such as the three double plays, one of which came from Johnny picking off a runner trying to sneak over to second base after a close play at third.

Another performance that just cannot go without mention is Wimers inability to hit the ball forward in the 5th inning, thus leading to his first foul out of the season.

Nick recapped it best when talking about the afternoons game and comparing it to MWs loss earlier this season “only 2 runs, you just cant win like that in this league, and we can vouch for that.”

Final score: March-Westin 21, Prime Thyme 3.

March-Westin will face Advantage Monday night at 10pm.

The scorebook can be viewed here, and I would like to thank the lovely umpires for setting a backdrop of legs for the photo, always a nice touch.

March-Westin Scales Chestnut Ridge

March-Westin continued its aggressive play Thursday night as they faced Chestnut Ridge Blue.

MW came out of the gates strong with a first inning where  the entire starting lineup got an at bat, producing 7 runs.  The offensive production cooled off later in the game but by that time the damage had already been done and the Ridge just couldn’t find an answer.  MW went on to throw up a couple runs in each of the remaining innings.

The MW infield is continuing to show improvement with every game and this was no exception.  Highlighted by 3 double plays, one of which was just instances away from being a triple play.  In fact you can tell the team is starting to really find the right formula when you hear Coach Tom say things like “if you don’t know the lineup by now, you’re not in it.”

Tom went 3-3 for the second straight game, but he was not alone this game, Nick, Jonathan, and Randy all reached base every time they stepped up to the plate.

The scorebook from the matchup be viewed here.

March-Westin will take on Prime Thyme this Saturday at 2pm in one of this seasons most highly anticipated games.

March-Westin Grinds Up Nutty C’s

MW returned to action with a new found hunger Monday night. After the originally scheduled game against Sunnyside Superette was canceled Nutty C’s agreed to play a double header with their second game of the night taking on the league leading March-Westin.

The soaring heat-index Monday evening was not enough to slow down March-Westin as they started the evening off with a lead-off home run courtesy of the speedy Jackson, quickly setting the tone for the night.

MW scored two runs in the first inning but really started to find the groove in the third and fourth innings where they posted 5 and 8 runs respectively. Other than Jacksons in-the-park home run and a blast by Nick over the center field wall (see Chasing Bonds Update below) MW showcased it’s well balanced offensive power with every player on the roster recording at least one base hit.

Tom and Dave both went 3-3; in fact, Tom scored three times Monday night (there’s a phrase you don’t hear too often).

Other notable performances once again include Nick who in addition to his daily dinger also stomped out a triple in the 4th inning. Jonathan racked up a pair of doubles, and James was once again spot on from the mound.

MW walked off the field with a sweat-soaked 15-5 victory, putting their record at 12-1.

The scorebook can be viewed here.

March-Westin (1) will take on Chestnut Ridge Blue (8) Thursday night at 6.

March-Westin Robs Sunnyside Supperette

Just the thought of facing the juggernaut that is March-Westin was enough to make Sunnyside Superette drop out of the league.

Sunnyside Superette was recently forced to forfeit their third game this season which in accordance with Boparc rules means that they are out of the league. This gave March-Westin its first win after the recent John Howard upset advancing MWs record to 11-1.

The Challenge

Sonic booms, tsunamis, or the occasional sperm whale belch cause mass confusion and send ripples through the space/time continuum. However, despite the strength of these phenomena of nature, there is nothing quite like feeling a disturbance in the Force. These disturbances happen once in a while; particularly after a long period of everything being in the status quo. I am not afraid to admit I felt a “ripple” Monday as I was driving down the road (and no it wasn’t that bean burrito from Taco Bell either). I could not place my finger on why the Force had shifted so drastically (remember I am not quite Darth Vader). However, Tuesday I heard the news I had been dreading to hear for so long.

“Down goes Frazier”, “Do you believe in miracles?”, “I don’t believe what I just saw” pale in comparison to the words uttered by Wimer’s profile: “March-Westin : 10-1 we totally got caught”. It was like someone had taken all the air out of the world and the Earth just engulfed itself. “March-Westin lost?”, I thought to myself. I was in total shock. It was kind of like when you finish your Calculus test in ten minutes and then get the grade back the next day and it says somewhere in the neighborhood of 35% on it. That is exactly how I felt. I just could not imagine a quality team such as March-Westin could ever lose a game.

Which brings me to my point about disturbances and the Force. There are things known as inverse proportions in the universe. The Yin and the Yang, so to speak. Well when one of them is up the other is down and vice versa. Good things happen to one while bad things happen to another. Well, apparently this March-Westin travesty began around 7 pm on Monday and I was on my way home from Oakland, Maryland around that time. At the time I paid no attention to the blue skies, and the birds chirping, and every car not being in my way on the drive home. Normally, I get behind the slowest grandma driving mini-van in three counties and he/she usually leads me right to my front door. This time, though, it was different. My path was clear and my car made it home and gasoline even dropped while I was gone.

Looking back on the whole situation knowing what I know now, it is incredibly obvious to me that all my good fortune happened because March-Westin was busy pounding out 7 hits (”7 hits? 7 goddamn hits?”, in the words of Harry Doyle). The last time I checked, 7 hits usually doesn’t win a softball game unless by some freak of nature a no-hitter is thrown (which would pretty much seal the deal that the team that got no-hit is absolutely the worst sports team to ever be assembled). What I wouldn’t give to have been behind the slow grandma just so I didn’t have to write this stupid article.

Alas, the only perfect team ever, the 1972 Miami Dolphins, have now popped the champagne TWICE this year. March-Westin must now try to be better than the ‘91 Washington Redskins who lost a mere two games the entire year on their way to winning their third Super Bowl. So, as the master of psychology that I am, I am challenging March-Westin to not be like the Atlanta Braves and just fold up; instead, be a true champion and come back and win the whole kit-an-kaboodle, all the marbles, the whole shootin’ match, the whole enchilada. You get my drift. PLAY LIKE A CHAMPION TODAY!!!!!!

John Howard Motors Past March-Westin

MW showed that it was in fact mortal last night as they were upset by John Howard.

March-Westin was unable to utilize their great speed and base running as they were held to just 7 hits on the night. That coupled with an 8 run first inning by John Howard proved too much to overcome.

In fact the only really notable events for March-Westin were Tyler and Johnnys back to back doubles in the first inning.

The loss snaps a 17 game winning streak stretching into the playoffs of last year. MW is now 10-1 for the season.

The scorebook from last night’s matchup can be viewed here.

March-Westin faces Sunnyside Superette Monday July 17 at 7pm.
