March Westin Takes Round 1

Monday night marked the beginning of the postseason road for March Westin as they defeated 7th seed Jackie’s Place in the opening round of the Boparc Playoffs with a final score of 18-8.

MW entered the playoffs with a slightly different lineup. James, MW’s regular hurler, is out indefinitely with 4 cracked ribs so Randy moved from the AH position to fill in.

Clearly affected by this new infield lineup MW got out to a poor start with an error filled first inning, giving Jackie’s an 7-0 lead.

However in the second inning the real drama started. Tom, in a clear moment of stupidity, wrote the lineup down wrong and thus caused chaos and confusion among the scorekeepers and lead to MW batting out of order. After an umpires review and meeting with the teams the issue was resolved and the game was allowed to continue. Scott was heard telling Coach Tom “If you don’t know the lineup by now you’re not in it.”

Perhaps all of the confusion woke up MW as the bats and fielding came to life and when the dust had settled MW walked away with an 18-8 victory.

Highlights of the game include Randy’s pitching performance, filling in for the injured James, he had only two walks and even a strikeout in the victory. Jackson and Nick were a combined 10 for 10 at the plate. Jackson also had a homerun in the game while Wimer and Randy added a pair of triples to the scorebook.

Others winners around the league from round 1: Webworks defeated Suncrest Gym, John Howard over Panrell, and Franks upset Prime Thyme.

MW returns to action for Game 2 on Wednesday at 6 on Ogden Field.
