MW Gets Their BOAZ Handed To Them

BOAZ won a huge upset victory Tuesday night, proving that they will be one of the teams to beat this season, by defeating MW 23-21.

MW performed well in their second game of the night against team BOAZ, consistently putting runs on the board each inning. But BOAZ was able to throw together a few rallies of their own to which Westin was just unable to keep up. As one of the MW players put it, “we played well, they just hit better than we did, they out scored us”.

Nick added another tick to his homerun total and wimer again performed well offensively.
MW plays again this Thursday as they take on Mill Place at 7 and Vision Homes at 8.

Connectamundo: Nick-3, Jackson-2, Wimer-1

Stats Update: Dave 9-16 (.563), Tom 4-7 (.571)

MW Cuts Chippy’s

March-Westin won a huge upset victory Tuesday night, proving that they will be one of the teams to beat this season, by defeating Chippys 19-9.

Chippys, referred to by some as the “Open Flight All-Stars” because their lineup includes players from various Open Flight teams, was unable to keep up with MWs onslaught of offense.  Although Chippy’s brings several power hitters to the lineup, including Scott “Big Deal” Gyorko, the rules of the fall softball league only allow 3 homeruns per game which plays into the hands of a more agile MW team.

The entire MW lineup performed well, highlighted by a homerun from Jackson and several multiple-base hits from Wimer.

He gave up the cigarettes, but he’s still smokin’: Jackson-2, Nick-2, Wimer-1

Batting Average Competition: Dave 5-11 (.455), Tom 3-5 (.600)

MW Corrals Auto Ranch

MW proved Thursday night why they might be one of the teams to beat this fall season by grabbing the bull by the horns and defeating Auto Ranch by a score of 15-0. Auto Ranch was unable to handle the full “8 seconds” and the game was called in the 4th inning with the mercy ruling.

MW hurler James Sanders was masterful on the mound recording one of the rarities in slow pitch softball, the shutout. James has even been showing signs of improvement on the other side of the plate as he is now 2-4 (.500) on the season.

Jennings once again lead the MW offense by going 3 for 3 at the plate recording a single, double, and triple while Nick added his second home run of the fall season. Brian Hill returned to the potent MW lineup, also going 3 for 3 including a walk-off single to end the game. In fact every member of the MW lineup reached base during the game, a sure sign that MW will be a force to be reckoned with this fall.

Sources close to the team indicate a healthy competition among MW players as they compete amongst themselves for the highest batting average. Dave and Tom seem to be most passionate regarding this statistic as they were overheard numerous times debating Dave’s batting average, which was recently lowered after a base hit was scored as an error on the fielder.

MW takes the field again for a double header on Tuesday, September 25 taking on the All-Star Open flight team Chippy’s at 8 and BOAZ at 9.

It’s deep, and I don’t think it’s playable: Nick-2, Wimer-1, Jackson-1

Players to watch: Dave 2-7 (.280), Tom 2-4 (.500)

Mylan Unable To Find Cure For MW Offense

After a two week off-season that had countless rumors flying regarding not only the starting lineup of the team but who would be the coach was settled Tuesday night as March-Westin took the field to face Mylan in their fall season opener.

Coach Tom accepted a contract extension which will keep him at the helm of team MW through the remainder of the year. Derek and Tony were released on waivers to be picked up by ERA. MW added some significant talent to the lineup as they added a pair of new faces, Scott Barr and Steve Doddrill, from MVP Paintball.

In spite of these lineup changes the team chemistry seemed very much in tact as MW pulled out to an early lead partly in thanks to the Mylan hurler as he struggled to find the strike zone for most of the night.

But MW wasn’t about to settle for just walks as they took advantage of the new .47 COR softballs used this season, sending them into the night sky on home runs from Wimer, Nick, and Jackson. March-Westin’s defense performed well considering this is a season opener game, led by Jared in right center field who hauled in numerous catches throughout the night.

Even young Mark displayed his dedication to the team as he sacrificed his own educational goals for the goals of the team. And he then followed up that decision with tangible results including a bases loaded single in the first, scoring two runners. When asked for comment about his attendance, Mark remained confident that he would be able to deceive not only his teacher, but his father, in spite of the fact that his father (Jennings) will be playing 1st base throughout the season.

March-Westin was able to close out the game by holding on to their 10 run lead in the bottom of the 5th inning with a clutch double play, preventing the runner on third from scoring. With a final score of 19-9 MW records its first of what many expect to be a long line of W’s.

HR Race: Wimer-1, Nick-1, Jackson-1

Key batting averages: Dave 1-4 (.250)*, Tom 1-2 (.500)

Westin takes the field again Thursday night as they face Auto Ranch at 7pm on Liberatore field.

*Statistic under dispute.
