No commentsMW takes WKKW off the air
March-Westin faced off against team WKKW last night as they extended their spring winning streak to 4-0, defeating WKKW by a final score of 24-14.
Once again MW was plagued with absences, although nowhere near as severe as last week. Rob was able to join the infield once again and Nick returned to the mound. On top of the absences Dave was unable to get to the field because of security delays at the airport resulting from ravenous fans begging for autographs.
With MW short an outfielder WKKW had no trouble finding gaps in the defense, scoring 7 runs in the first inning. However once MW was able to field a full lineup the scoring quickly subsided.
Nick had the only home run of the night. Mark was a solid 4-5 at the plate. Dave went 2-4 on the night while Tom was a disappointing 1-4, tying up the race for batting average bragging rights between the two teammates. Jeff, who didn’t strike out a single time last night, was an impressive 3 of 4 with three doubles (one of which included a premature HR celebratory trot when he bounced one off the left field fence). All this while playing through a testicular issue that was first reported here. The MWBall staff asks that you keep Jeff in your prayers as he battles this difficult and embarrassing disease. We should all be thankful that he is willing to share the news with us.
Jared is scheduled to return to the lineup next week. There have also been rumors that someone named Jackson will be joining the team. At the time of printing MWBall has been unable to confirm these reports.
Homerun Chase – Nick – 3, Jennings – 1, Wimer – 1.
MW travels to face Brew Crew next week at 10pm.
2 commentsMW Cracks Mario’s Fishbowl
March-Westin continued its winning streak Wednesday night as they took on a talented Mario’s Fishbowl.
In spite of potentially devastating absences MW was able to call upon its extensive fan base to produce some solid fill in talent.
Due to the lineup changes MW was forced to make some dramatic changes in the field putting Wimer to RC, Jennings to LC, and newcomers Rob and Rob to 2B and C respectively. Nick moved from 3B to the mound, with Jeff replacing him at his normal 3B position. All of these changes showed just how versatile the team actually is after defeating a solid team with very few fielding errors.
Nick had a strong performance on the mound, which is actually the third pitcher in as many games for MW. Nick also had a pair of home runs, putting him back into the lead of the homerun competition over Jennings and Wimer who both have one.
Jeff did well as he filled in at 3B, however he was caught looking on a questionable 3rd strike. When asked after the game what was going through his head he recounted the at bat as follows:
“Well I remember thinking, ok here is the pitch….oh that looks high… if I swing at that I’m just going to pop it up… I’m just going to let it go, it’s a ball…. oh, that was close… *Strike 3* ……#%@$#@*%!
Mario’s managed to load the bases in the bottom of the 7th inning but was unable to overcome their 7 run deficit. MW recorded its third straight win with a final score of 16-13.
Homerun Chase – Nick – 2, Jennings – 1, Wimer – 1.
MW faces WKKW next Wednesday at 6pm.
5 commentsMW Stabs OJ
Led by a 7th inning comeback rally March-Westin defeated OJ White Thursday night for their second straight win of the season.
Although the start of the game was hard fought, MW was able to maintain a lead for the majority of the game, that is until the the top of the 7th inning when OJ was able to put together a string of hits, overtaking MW on the leaderboard. This however, was no cause for concern for the veteran MW team. As they entered the bottom of the 7th inning with a 2 run deficit MW was able string together a series of hits of their own, capped off with a game winning with a walk-off single from Brian “effin” bailey, scoring Mark and Jeff. Final score: MW 9, OJ 8.
Amidst the victory celebrations there was a real scare during the game when center fielders Mark and Jared violently collided while chasing after a fly ball. The video of the collision can be found here.
MW returns to action this Wednesday as they face Mario’s Fishbowl.
No commentsMW Pulverizes Team Granite
Good morning gentlemen, and welcome to another season of March-Westin softball.
After a very successful fall season MW returned to the diamond to face Granite Concrete in their season opener.
Team cement put up an impressive first inning as they quickly solidified a six run lead. But MW bounced back in the seconding inning, putting on a scoring streak of their own to bring the scores back into balance.
Both teams then seemed to unable to find their offense in the middle innings, as neither were able to put together a rally. MW however had the veteran leadership of Nick who refused to watch his team go down without a fight, echoing out such words of inspiration as “remember how you didn’t get a single hit during the first six games of last season? Let’s not do that this year.” That combined with brilliant coaching strategies from Coach Tom such as “let’s hit the ball tonight”, its unfathomable how this team could lose.
And lose they would not, just as all great military leaders know what it takes to get their men ready for battle, these words of wisdom were exactly what MW needed. MW responded by showing more aggression on the base pads which seemed to rattled the defense, quickly causing team sandstone to crumble.
MW would go on to score a devastating seven runs in the top of the 7th inning, winning by a final score of 18-13.
Wimer and Jared were a combined 10-10 on the night. Tom “Felt good out there. Fast, full of energy”, which I know I will sleep better knowing. And Dave’s batting average remained at .000
Tonight MW faces longtime rival OJ White at 8pm.

2 commentsConditions Prove Too Much for ERA
March-Westin defeated ERA by forfeit Tuesday night in what proved to be a drama filled event.
Boparc officials decided to play Tuesday nights games in spite of the weather which continued to bring rain throughout the night, leaving the field in an almost comical state of mud puddles.
After completing their first game of the night, team ERA and MW agreed to continue play as scheduled in spite of the poor conditions.
MW pulled out to a quick lead as they played near perfect defense. James had a no-hitter going through two innings and only one walk. While MW had sloped in 7 runs of their own.
This trend showed no signs of changing when Tony of ERA injured himself during a diving catch in left field. As he limped off the field, the clear frustration of the ERA began to boil over. Derek made the comment that he refused to see anyone else get hurt (because of the weather) as he walked off the field. He then informed the umpire that he did not care how it was scored, “even if it means we forfeit.”
The umpire was clearly unsure on how to handle the situation, of which she had quickly lost control, and informed MW that she would confer with her colleagues and inform us of the decision the next day. This surprised many of the MW players because the simple act of ERA walking off the field seemed to imply a forfeit, but MW was confident that when the situation was explained to the head official that he would come to the same realization and MW would not be forced to replay the game at a later date. (Side note: March-Westin already knew that they would be shorthanded if forced to play the game at a later date.)
Wednesday morning March-Westin players were informed that they would be required to replay the entire game from the beginning that Thursday. Not only would MW struggle the field a full team due to schedule conflicts but this decision seemed to defy common logic.
Coach Tom promptly contacted Boparc to get clarification on the ruling and to ensure that they were fully aware of the previous night’s events, clarifying to them that they had in fact already played 2 innings and fully intended to finish the game that night. Upon hearing this information the Boparc officials reversed their decision and awarded March-Westin the victory.
MWBall has learned that many of the ERA players are not happy with the ruling by Boparc, suggesting that March-Westin had sweet talked their way into a victory that they did not deserve. Having seen the communications that took place first hand I can assure you this is far from the truth. In reality Boparc was poorly informed from the beginning, not realizing that the game had already started.
The players of March-Westin hold no ill feelings towards ERA and its players, however they do feel that the correct decision was ultimately made and that it is unfortunate that such confusion and miss-information was being propagated.
MW will be credited with a 7-0 victory by forfeit over team ERA.
Aye, Papi, I did not know you could do it like that: Nick-9, Jackson-3, Wimer-3, Brian-2, Jennings-1
